Let’s Make The Most or The Time and Environment We Have Helicopter Avionics Specialist, Ko Tae Ill.

Who Is He? He majored in electric engineering. Now he works in Korea Aerospace Industries. He is a principal research engineer in the rotary-wing armament system team of the Rotary-wing Aircraft Research&Development Division. There is something he wants to say to CNU’s students. Let’s hear what he says!

1.  What Is Helicopter Avionics? I’m engaged in avionics of military aircraft for helicopters. Avionics is a field that creates integrated designs and elastic barriers to make functions like navigation, communication and identification possible in order to improve flight safety.

2.  Ever Since You Were Young, You’ve Been       Interested in Aircrafts. What are the Merits of Working with Aircrafts? I think the ways in which the dreams of man have been translated into reality most dramatically are communication and aircraft. Aircrafts were a result of dynamic airframe structure and the latest telecommunication being connected, and they provide various technological challenges that fascinate engineers. For example, there is Precise Navigation Technology. It makes planes go to the destination precisely and safely.

3.  Which Subject Was the Most Interesting to you When you were a College Student? I majored in electrical engineering. It was very interested in circuit theory and electromagnetism, which are responsible for displaying electricity analytically that the human eye can’t see. This field of study is being used in various ways as basic knowledge in my current job.

4.  What Activities Did You Do in University that You Remember Most? I was in a tennis club. Even now I play tennis in a local tennis club. Sometimes I come to Daejeon to meet juniors of the tennis club. If I could, I would want to attend university OB(old boy) games frequently and play with my juniors.

5.  What Does Working in A Field You Are Interested in Mean to You? In the aircraft development field, there are lots of longterm projects - about 10 years long. They require work in new environments rather than the same ones. I’m comfortable with these kinds of projects.

6.  Advice to CNU Students 21 years have passed since I graduated from graduate school. Majoring engineering gave me lots of pride. It still helps me a lot. I think the experience in university is not much different from my work environment. So it is important to make the best use of one’s environment and time, and to adapt to changes wisely.
