Chungnam National University held the inauguration of The 17th president Dr. Jung Sang-Chul (57) on 11:00 am, February 1, 2012 in Baekma Hall of Jeongsimhwa Inauguration Cultural Center.
    The inauguration progressed in order, from the pledge of allegiance to the introduction of the new president, the new president's inaugural address, and congratulatory messages by Gwak Su-ill honorary professor of Seoul National University (SNU), and Han Seug-Gu, the preside of an alumni association. 
    A combination of members of the university and outsiders, about 500 people attended. Dr. Jung Sang-Chul said, "Prior to the beginning, I'm sorry and thank you because this inauguration is bigger and more luxurious than I planned. Think you for all of your undivided attention."
    Dr. Jung Sang-Chul, Chungnam National University's 17th president was elected on November 15, 2011. He began work immediately after being nominated on January 21, 2012.
    In his inaugural address, Dr. Jung Sang-Chul emphasized communication and harmony between faculty and students to achieve the ultimate goal of making CNU the best university. He said, "To make CNU the top university, we should get strong faculty and strong students. For strengthening the teaching staff, I'll aggressively support the recruitment of excellent faculty and improve the research environment for professors. Also, I'll strive to build up students' intellectual capability and provide support in their future employment placement. Through rapod and systematic improvement of the administration, the teaching staff will benefit a lot. I promise that CNU soon will be " the No.1 national university with global competitiveness" and also " the university leading Sejong City and International Science Business Belt."
    Subsequently, he referred to " Open Office of the President," which is the opened organization for frank conversation and gathering opinions from faculty and student council. And he promised, " As the president of CNU for the next four years, I won't forget my original intent: communication and harmony. Besides, I will not manage school policy autocratically." "Perhaps," he said, " last 60 years brought us to this period of great development. But now, we competitive. If we professors, students, staff, and alumni go that CNU does, in fact, lead the new age."
    Meanwhile, Gwak Su-Ill, the honorary professor at Seoul National University requested to the new president, "Being open includes collaboration, peering, sharing and acting global," and continued, "Let's stand for collaboration together."
