The New View of the Local Items

<NO.239 , MARCH , 2012>

    Most freshmen have expectations about their college lives. They want to join clubs, enjoy hobbies, or to know the “ins-and-outs”of campus. However, they become disappointed. This situation is a travesty. Many college students give up their possibilities and opportunities. There are several causes for this. First, the student newspaper often fails to cover issues of student interest. Therefore, they do not read it any more. According an article, if student newspapers handle the region’s news, the readership will rise. In addition, the local residents will begin to read it. I accept that opinion. I think many local residents will read it to learn the opinion of the youth on local events. Thus, a diverse range of people can share their ideas or opinions.
    Now, let’s talk about university clubs. Freshmen do not want to join clubs partly because they can’t trust in the clubs activities. They don’t think the clubs are functioning properly. They fear that most activities are centered on drinking and playing.
    Nevertheless, there are some ways to get over this. One of them is to make school clubs work within the greater community. In an article, a volunteer club is mentioned. It has volunteer activities such as music, painting, taking photos, traveling, sports, and so on. Through active participation, participants become energetic and passionate.
    After reading this article, I was so amazed that the local community could be wonderful source for so many good resources. I was born and bred in a small town. So, for me local things are natural and nothing new. But, localities can be good ingredients for building an exciting college life. From now, I should not overlook the importance of local things around me.
