Dead Poets Society
The movie begins with a commencement ceremony of a prestigious high school called the Walton Academy. All students have the same goal: entering the Ivy League. Todd Anderson spends his first day as a transfer er student and John Keating is just starting his new post as an English teacher at his alma mater.
Keating’s teaching method is unique. He wants his students to call him "Captain." He is trying to make them seek what they want to become. "Carpe Diem: Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary." One day, seven students hear about the Dead Poets Society which is a traditional school literary club. Keating told them that he had enjoyed it during his high school days. So, they decided to revive the spirit and tradition of the club. Through this secret literary meeting, they start releasing all their pent-up emotions. They also began to discover what they really want. One of the club members, Neil, took an audition for the performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but his father would not allow him to perform and instead enrolled him in a military school. That night Neil shoots himself. Keating is blamed and he has to leave the school. During the last class session, other students stepped on their desks and call Keating "Oh, Captain! My Captain!" and shed tears. This is very touching moment.
I will quote few lines: "Oh me, Oh life of the question of these recurring of the endless trains of the faithless of cities filled with the foolish. What good amid these? Oh me, Oh life … Answer … that you are here and life exists … You are here. Life exists, and identity. The powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse."
