This year, 2022, is special for Chungnam National University (CNU) because CNU will celebrate its 70th anniversary. Founded as Chungnam Provincial University on May 25, 1952, Chungnam National University became a national university on March 1, 1963. Based on its vision of value-generating leadership, CNU has made rapid progress with students in fulfilling its goals. In this article, to celebrate the anniversary, we will take a close look at CNU.

Chungnam National University practices its educational motto “Creativity, Development, and Service to the Community.” By pursuing its mission of nurturing talent, value creation, and mutual development, it aims to be recognized globally as a major educational institution.

▷ General Information for Chungnam National University

CNU has fourteen colleges and three schools. Humanities; Social Sciences; Natural Sciences; Economics and Management; Engineering; Agriculture and Life Sciences; Pharmacy; Medicine; Human Ecology; Fine Arts and Music; Veterinary Medicine; Biological Sciences and Biotechnology; Education; and Nursing are CNU’s colleges. Besides, there is the Faculty of Liberal Arts, the School of Integrated National Security, and the School of International Studies. Since the establishment of CNU, 155,103 students have graduated, and 2,559 professors, including part-time professors, have shared their knowledge and expertise with students.

▷ Chungnam National University’s Accomplishments

In 2020, Times Higher Education (THE), which rates universities around the world annually, ranked Chungnam National University as number two among flagship national universities in Korea. Furthermore, CNU tied for first place among Korean universities and flagship national universities in the category of peace, justice, and strength. In addition, it ranked 40th in the world, 4th among Korean universities, 2nd among flagship national universities, for industrial innovation and infrastructure. In this field, CNU ranked 43rd in 2021. Moreover, since 2020, CNU has been implementing its “University Innovation Support Project,” “Leading Regional University Development Project,” “National University Development Project,” etc. These projects demonstrate that CNU is always looking to the future.

All of us are facing the 4th and 5th industrial revolutions. Chungnam National University has also been preparing for the new world. As a part of its plan, CNU has built thirty-eight academic research centers, forty specific topic research centers, five policy research centers, and three research institutes; research funding received per person ranked first among flagship national universities for two consecutive years (2018-2019).

Furthermore, to keep pace with globalization, CNU offers students a wide range of programs to foster global talent. These include exchange programs, overseas dispatch for global talent building, dual degrees, visiting student programs, the Global Scholarship Program, the International Summer Semester, the International Winter Semester, etc. Chungnam National University is affiliated with 417 universities and institutions spread over 64 nations and annually dispatches 436 students on average.

▷ The 70th Anniversary of the School Foundation Fund Raising Campaign

Recently, a donation campaign for the 70th anniversary of the foundation of CNU has started, aiming to increase the future value of CNU. The CNU foundation announced that the 70th Anniversary of the School Foundation Fund Raising Campaign will be held from March 16 to December 31.

As mentioned above, Chungnam National University has come a long way in 70 years. It will continue to bring great improvements to education as it has always done. For what CNU has achieved, we should give credit to all students and faculty of CNU. Chungnam National University will move toward its next one hundred years.
