What is beauty? It is something that gives pleasure or satisfaction to the eyes. However, it becomes a problem when we are obsessed with beauty. Nowadays, you can see beautiful people everywhere on the Internet, on social media, in magazines, and on TV. Many people are influenced by the media and are exposed to what society says is beautiful. It is a big problem. When I was a teenager, I wished that I had glowing silky textured skin and a slender body like the models in magazines or the celebrities on TV. But one day at school, after watching a TED talk by a model, Cameron Russell, I realized that the images of models and celebrities are photoshopped, and they have a beauty crew to make them look gorgeous. So I think that the media shows people unrealistic images and standards of beauty, especially concerning women. Many women struggle to pursue the ideal beauty. So they spend lots of time and money on becoming beautiful. Plastic surgery and the abundance of beauty products available could help people to achieve beautiful looks. Also, there are makeup tutorials on YouTube showing how to apply makeup and what beauty products to buy. This could also influence teens and even younger children to worry about their appearance. However, there is something more important than appearance. Outer beauty fades as time passes by; however, what remains is inner beauty. Audrey Hepburn once said, ”The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman only grows with the passing years.” So there are many ways you can achieve inner beauty. First, be confident and love yourself. If you don’t love yourself, you cannot love others. Second, be kind to others. Expressing your warm heart to other people will make them happy, and doing this will make you happy, too. Third, smile. Smiling is the most beautiful makeup. It enhances your confidence and positivity. Last but not least, fill yourself with knowledge and experience by reading books, by spending time with people, and by traveling. When you look back, you will have a lot of fond memories.
