Many students are reluctant to enter graduate schools because of the huge costs involved and the lack of information available. Chungnam National University has as many as 23 graduate schools participating in the BK21 project. The BK21 project covers costs and offers scholarships to help foster prestigious graduate schools and to reduce the financial burden on students. From now on, I will tell you about the various graduate schools at Chungnam National University.

In general, the aims of graduate schools are to learn basic theories and pursue advanced academic studies. Students can earn a master’s or a doctoral degree by attending graduate schools. CNU ranked seventh among the 23 selected BK21 Plus Project groups. In addition, the total cost of the project will reach some 38.5 billion won by August 2020, with 8.5 billion won being spent per year for four years and six months.

A professional graduate school is a graduate school whose primary educational purpose is to study “practical” theories and to undertake research and development necessary to foster human resources in professional fields. CNU has four professional graduate schools: the Graduate School of Law, the Graduate School of Analysis, the Graduate School of Energy, Science, and Technology, and the Graduate School of New Medicine. The graduate schools, with the exception of the law school, are the only such graduate schools in Korea.

The Graduate school of Analytical Science and Technology (GRAST) is a professional educational research institute established jointly by the Korea Institute for Basic Science and Support, a government-funded research institute, and CNU. The purpose of this project is to develop analysis equipment and analysis technology, which are the keys to science and technology, and to foster experts in the use of specialized equipment.

The Institute of Energy, Science, and Technology (GEST) is an education research institute specializing in energy established jointly by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and CNU. It aims to train global R&D personnel in energy fields to ensure national energy security and respond to the climate change convention.

The Graduate School of Medicine is a professional education research institute jointly established by CNU and the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology. The graduate school was founded to focus on the education of new drug validation technology and the materials of new drugs through the establishment of a multidisciplinary convergence program.

Special graduate schools are graduate schools that mainly focus on higher education for professionals or general adults. CNU has eight graduate schools which include a business school, an education school, a public health school, an industrial school, a patent law school, a national public policy school, a public administration school and a peace and security school. In contrast to other specialgraduate schools, which enhance academic background and networking, the education school is there to help its students sit for the teacher qualification exam.

To summarize, there are various graduate schools at CNU. And since you can receive a lot of financial support, if you are passionate about learning, I recommend that you consider entering a graduate school at CNU.
