Lack of School Facilities

  Have you ever experienced any inconveniences in Chungnam National University? Are you satisfied with the number of facilities in the university? Some people think that there are enough facilities for the students, but others do not. For the latter, what kind of facilities does Chungnam University need? Here are three students who answered that question.    

A place to eat

  “There are not enough restaurants compared to the size of the school. Every lunch time is a disaster.” said a 23?year-old male student of Chungnam University. “Waiting lines are always too long, and there are not enough seats. I don’t understand why they made so few restaurants when there are so many students in this school.” He also emphasized that other universities have two or three restaurants per college, but Chungnam University has only one for each college. According to a survey from Chungnam National University, about twenty five thousand students study in Chungnam University and there are six student restaurants, including the dormitory. Considering that Chungnam University has one of the largest campuses in Korea, only having six student restaurants might be inconvenient for students, especially during rush hour. More student restaurants or larger places need to be prepared.     

A place to study for a long time

  Study circles need a place where they can stay for a long time so that they can use it for their activities. Study rooms in Chungnam University are usually full of people all the time. However, many students say that those study rooms are not that comfortable to use. “The biggest problem is that the time limit is too short. We are only allowed to use the study room for two hours. That is not enough time for clubs to do their activities.” said a 22-year-old female Chungnam University student expressing her dissatisfaction. Another 23-year-old male student who majors in chemistry said, “We not only do club activities in the study room, but also have meetings or do homework together. How are we supposed to do all these things when we can use this room only for two hours?” Universities have a responsibility to make a good learning environment for the students. Increasing the available time will help students to do their activities.

Where can I recharge my transportation card?

  Most students in Chungnam University use transportation cards these days. Since many students take public transportation, those cards are very useful in commuting to school. But when it comes to recharging, many students are experiencing an inconvenience due to the lack of convenience stores in Chugnam University. A 24-year-old female student in Chugnam University, who majors in horticulture, told us about her difficulties specifically. “I have to recharge my transportation card in a convenience store, but there is only one nearby the dormitory in school. I cannot recharge it easily because it is too far away. I find it time consuming to go all the way down to the front gate just for charging money. It would be great if we had more places where we could recharge traffic cards.” Although some use deferred payment traffic cards, numerous students still use the original traffic cards. If the students could recharge their transportation cards in cafeterias, it would be much more comfortable.
