Let’s Find Out about the Programs in Detail with Actual Experience!
Isn’t this information enough to fulfill your curiosity and interest? To provide more concrete and realistic information, there is a story about one student who actually took a part in one of the program supported by CNU Office of International Affairs.
1. Who Is She and What Kind of Program Did She Participate in?
Han Ye-bit is a senior at CNU now and studies German Language and Literature as her major. CNU-SAP is the program that she experienced for 3 months of her first semester in 2013 when she was a junior. Through this chance, she was able to visit Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada.
2. What Did She Prepare to Apply for the Program?
In the summer of 2012, Ye-bit got the information about overseas program from some friends of the group study on English conversation. In that period, she was attending a lecture of Foreign Education Program provided by the Office of International Affairs. She made an effort to get a chance to study at a foreign university by studying the TOEIC during the summer vacation. She got a good TOEIC score which was about 800. In addition to this result, she got a good GPA near to a 4.0, and eventually she could go abroad for studying.
3. What Were Advantages and Disadvantages?
The most difficult part was Canadian’s individualistic tendency, which made Ye-bit start conversations in order to be close with her fellow students. Nevertheless, there were many things she could enjoy. First, she had various experiences which aren’t likely to be had in Korea such as 1:1 mentoring program, movie night, and coffee house. Coffee house is the program that students have a cup of coffee with a friend having a conversation once a week. Because Memorial University is far from urban areas, she had to take a taxi when she went shopping. This geographical location was uncomfortable for her at first. However, the environment had been changed as a strength as time went. She thought that it helped her learn local culture well. Furthermore, she could have such precious experiences in Canada to relatively low cost.
4. Her Own Tips for Students who Want Go Overseas
Don’t try to go abroad for just studying foreign language! Go with the mindset that experiences the foreign culture rather than restricting yourself in a thought about just learning other language. If you go with this mind, you can learn English more naturally!
