Make Our University Beautiful!

People usually think sanitation workers just make our campus clear on the outside. However, the Sanitation Workers Union of CNU not only cleans up the visible exterior of the campus but also makes our university more beautiful through their devoted services to our university!

Students Usually Get a Scholarship from Whom?
There are various kinds of scholarships students can get, and most students have benefited financially from the companies, government, or schools providing the scholarships to students. Receiving economical support from these institutes usually isn’t considered to be a special occasion by people in our daily life. However, we can often hear the news that comes with a touching story and is somewhat different from what we encounter in general. Do you know a story about Junshimhwa Hall located right in front of CNU’s main gate? In, the 1990s, this building was built through one old lady’s donation worth five billion won. Even though she wasn’t rich, she increased her donation by selling kimbap throughout her life. Like this anecdote, an uncommon fund by the uncommon workers of CNU was donated to CNU this past June.

What Happened at CNU?
At 2:30 p.m. on July 13, special scholarships for helping three excellent students at CNU were awarded in room 109 of the Economics and Management Building. The students who received these scholarships got high grades above a 4.4 average out of 4.5 last semester despite their economic hardships. Because 93 people affiliated with the Sanitation Workers Union of CNU collected money through their union fees, the money can be called a special scholarship. These workers are those who work for outsourcing cleaning service enterprise, Woolim Mantech Co., Ltd. They might be someone’s parents now through adolescence, and some of them also underwent hard times during their school days. For these reasons, they wanted to make a contribution to bring a harmonious coexistence of individual and society through their financial support for not only their children but also other students. In addition to this, each member of the union intended to give a something back to society by saving money that could have been used personally for trivial things.

What Are Its Expected Effects and Future Plans?
A three million won of scholarship in total was awarded to 3 students, one million respectively. The scholarship will be used in buying books or living expenses for improvement of their academic performances. Kim Im-sang, a union representative, said, “We saved money with parents’ heart who want to give an aid to help students concentrate on their studies even under economic hardship. The students who received our scholarships are likely to be proud graduates of CNU and contribute to the goal we seek when each student becomes a respectable member of our society in the future.” He also added, “We promise not to make it a one off event and have a plan to provide scholarships every year to needy students.”
