‘London Bridge is Down’ was the code name of the funeral plan for Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ. The greatest star of the United Kingdom fell on September 8, 2022, while at Balmoral Castle. Every man and woman in Britain and beyond mourned her death and praised her work and achievements.

Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ was the longest-reigning queen in Britain’s history. She was born on April 21, 1926, in London. She married Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947 and had their first child in 1948, Prince Charles, who is now king. In 1952, she succeeded her father, King George Ⅵ, following his death when she was only 25, with her coronation at Westminster Abbey held on June 2, 1953.

Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ performed exceptionally well in her role in the modern monarchy. She allowed the royal family’s life to be shown on television and even abolished the royal family’s exemption from paying taxes on personal income. In 2002, Golden Jubilee events celebrating the 50th year of her reign were held in Commonwealth countries. Furthermore, she celebrated her Diamond Jubilee upon being on the throne for 60 years. Last year, her husband Philip, who had been by her side for over 70 years, died aged 99. Later, in June 2022, a Platinum Jubilee marked her 70th year on the throne. Aged 96, the queen passed away on September 8. The people of Britain were shocked and saddened by her death. The following Monday, students did not go to school, and businesses did not open. It was officially declared a public holiday in honor of the queen.

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral took place on Monday, September 19. Mourning their loss, many British people waited in a long line to bid farewell and pay their respects to the queen. Her coffin was covered with the Royal Standard and atop was the Imperial State Crown. The queen’s coffin was lowered into the vault beneath St. George’s Chapel, where ten other monarchs lie buried. Queen Elizabeth II was buried there alongside her father, mother, sister, and husband, Prince Philip. The funeral was a final farewell to the British people’s beloved monarch.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his grief, saying the queen was widely admired for her grace, dignity, and dedication around the world. Besides, South Korea’s president Yoon Suk-yeol added, "She had a strong belief in the cause of human freedom and left great legacies of dignity. Her kind heart and good deeds will remain in our memories.”

After ascending to the throne at 25, she governed the United Kingdom for 70 years. Her first son Charles, who is 73 years old, is now King Charles III, and he will take over her duties to the country.
