Have you ever seen a movie, Perfume: the Story of Murder? If you had seen the movie, you was feels power of scent. Besides, you may be interested in perfumer. CP-Reporter met Jung Mi-soon who is the first perfumer in Korea. Now, let's listen to the aromatic story from her.

The academy is full of aroma. I feel so good. I want to know you who makes all thses perfume.
    I'm Jung Mi-sun. I work for <Galimard Perfume Flavor School and Studio>. Perfumers work for making fragrance. For them, reproducing natural scent and making a nonexisting scent are important. I work hard to satisfy customer's demands. Fragrance deviating from that purpose is of no use.

What Is the Fragrance?
    Fragrance is invisible like an air. But, it is everywhere and it has an enchanting power. When People buy something they are usually by scent. They think that they choose items by themselves without being influenced. In fact, aroma is like food or something influenced their choice.

Are Korean Woman Sensitive to Cosmetic's Fragrance. It Might Be Related the Power.
    It is true that Korean are very sensitive to scent. Other counties use perfume and flavor. Many foreigners are familiar to fragrance. But, we have not been exposed to many types of fragrance. WE are unfamiliar to many kinds of scent. So, our, Koreans' like or dislike are very clear. It makes us have picky taste and big difference among individuals.

Do You Really Like to Enjoy Your Job? When is The First Time That You Want to Be a Perfumer?
    When I was a middle school student, I read a biography about Estee Lauder. She wes a perfumer. This was the first time that I knew about this job and wanted to be a perfumer. When I worked for, I did my best to be a Perfumer. I had hard times when I was entering a company. It was hard to get a job as a perfumer. I didn't have much information about getting job. Nevertheless, I pursued my way. And it never means that employment opportunities are narrow for perfumer and flavorist. Many enterprises want specialist in fragrance.

Your Major Is Chemistry. Is That Chemistry Information Really Needed to be a Perfumer?
    Studying chemistry is really helpful to he a perfumer. Every fragrance is chemistry substances. They have chemical names. Making perfumer involves chemical processes. You don't have to major in chemistry. But, I would advise you to study fundamentals in chemistry.

Then, Where Can we Study Fragrance?
    Generally, there are two ways in studying perfume and flavor. One wav is using a private academy like curs. The other is complering cosmetic company's course, Private academy will help you to study with a pure purpose. Company's course is slightly different. If you are a new employee in cosmetic company's fragrance department, the company will train you. But remember that company's purpose is to make money with your perfume. So I fear you may have only chance to know about fragrance related market.

Is Studying Abroad Necessary?
    I can't deny foreign academy in France or Japan is advanced. Especially, France has a long history. Programs there are systematic. In France, a perfumer is a respected job. Experienced perfumer has high social position. But, things are quite different in Korea. We have no history nor tradition nor social recognition. But changes in Korea are taking place rapidly. In 10 years, we will reach a similar level with japan and France.

I Heard Your Studio Makes Ordered Perfumer. Is That Right?
    We makes ordered Perfume and DIY perfume. DIY perfume means general customers make their own perfume by themselves combining aroma. Ordered perfume means perfume made by a perfume for customers or company order. For instance, Star perfume is a kind of ordered perfume. We make perfume fitting on celebrity's image. In other case, fashion brand or magazine also want to launch celebrity perfume.

DIY Perfumer Is Heard Very Interesting.
    DIY perfume is really efficient. Yon can make perfume with your favorite scents. Many customers visit us with special stories. One day, a man visited the studio to make a perfume. He wanted to reproduce his first lover's perfume. How romantic he is! Each DIY Perfume has its own story.

In Early 20s, Many People Thought Perfumer
Makes Headache. Is That Right?
    Well, People who are not used to using perfume try single noted perfume. You can find what fragrance makes you feel bad. Also natural simple aroma will make fewer mistakes. When you are familiar to single note, you can challenge to use more completed Perfume. If you present perfume to young people, single note perfume is good choice.

What Fragrance Will Fit in Fall?
    I recommended chypre note. It matches i" Fall. You guys are young, so little unisex perfume is good. Also green note works well in Fall. It suits not only summer but also fall. When you use perfume, it is good to spray on heart-beating place. Don't forget to spray it backside your body. it makes more effect.

Do you Have Any Special Plan?
    I'm really sorry for some students in my academy who are learing through a long-distance learning. I want to open branch for these students co study fragrance easily.

There Might Be Some Students Who Want to be a Perfumer in Chungnam National University.
    Dream comes true! You are fed up to this word. But, it is true. Once you make a firm determination, go for it. You can be a good perfumer, I believe.
