Chungnam National University (CNU) was selected as a 'Low carbon Green Campus' by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation, which help lead low carbon green growth. CNU will receive financial support for three years, as it joins "Green Campus" business. Also CNU plans to increase investment in facilities and support scholarship for "Green Campus."
Recently, leading universities around the world are moving to shape Green Campus. The most important way to enhance the quality of a university is to build and promote an eco-friendly system on campus. To respond to the international situation, the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation selected 10 universities, including CNU, as 'Low Carbon Green Campus.' The universities should foster leaders to build eco-friendly infrastructures and encourage green activity. And we are supported both funds and reduction technology of green-house gases by Korea Association for Green Campus Initiative.
What efforts did CNU make to become a Green Campus? Some CNU undergraduates, dividing into groups of two, looked for vacant classrooms and turned off lights. The school gave students the "Carbon Scholarship of Energy Keepers" through the Energy Keeper system. Besides, "Carbon Scholarship of Energy Keepers" operated 'Green-house Gases Home Doctor Program.' This Scholarship system helped to reduce carbon dioxide in the process of producing goods from neighboring small and medium-sized enterprises.
