It has both good and bad sides. Let me first start to talk about the positive side of it. This grading policy is only targeted for one class. This is really good. Due to a spirit of fierce competition, better performance is expected.
Now I will talk about the negative side. Above all, increased competition will undermine a team spirit. In addition, some students will get lower grades despite performing harder work. Thirdly. this system will be unfair to some students taking the same subject in different classes. For these reasons, I am strongly against this relative evaluation system.
What alternative is there? One way is to apply the relative evaluation system to all students taking the same subject. By doing so, some complications experienced by some students can be solved. Fair competition may enhance students' ability. The existing relative evaluation system needs improvement.
