At Chungnam National University, there is an ‘Apple Garden’ located between the lecture hall and the main building in the College of Social Sciences. A sign, ‘Apple Garden’, is posted on the entrance of the garden. It is named ‘Sagwa dae’, which is the abbreviation of the College of Social Sciences. Originally, this place had been abandoned, and was used as a septic. It was full of weeds until it was redeveloped. Since Autumn 2007, this garden has hern well-kept. In fact, three persimmon trees are now in the garden. Dozens of different flowers have bloomed, and this well-kept garden is constantly attracting students.
Tasha Tudor, author of American children’ books, is famous for the story of ‘Tasha’s garden.’ Many people love Tasha’s Garden; it’s often known as ‘a heaven of flowers’ and ‘a heaven on earth.’ It is getting more difficult to find breathing space in this polluted space. So, this ‘Apple Garden’ looks special for us. Recover your spirits by visiting ‘Apple Garden.’
Are there any apple trees in ‘Apple Garden?’ There was none at first. But, thanks to Park Su-kyoung, professor of Dept. of Public Administration, there are some apple trees now. She said, there must be at least one apple tree in an ‘Apple Garden.’ The apple trees in ‘Apple Garden’ are too small to bear apples yet. But, if our students continue to take care of this garden, someday we will see apples.
