The Cellist Sarejevo

The book I want to introduce to you is The Cellist of Sarajevo. This is a based on a true story. Some people might know this story already. A cellist played at a place, where 22 people died from bombing attack for twenty two days. As shown in the title, the background is Sarajevo during the Bosnian Conflict. So before I opened the book, I expected the vivid description of many of the historical facts about the First World War. However, this story was mainly about the change of people's consciousness, thought, and life influenced by the war. People who bombed Sarajevo were described as 'them on the hill,' War made everything impoverished. The electric power and the water went our, and cars were abandoned on die street. Everything was desolate. The citizens of Sarajevo gradually became hardened to other's death. Their spirit was devastated more. They were not able to walk on the street freely because they didn't know when the sniper's bullet came out. This horrible situation did not let people meet each other. They were haunted by the fear of war. This story remained me of the tragic war occurred in my country hack in 1950. Koreans had no hope like the citizens of Sarajevo during the Korean War. I could feel war is awfully dreadful through this book. Under this horrible situation, the cellist not stop playing regardless of the fear death. As you read more and more, you will realize how the Sarajevo people overcome the fear and change their attitude by this small hero.
