The stage is hit with awesome lights! The hall vibrated with intense music. Flash bulbs are wildly lit due to numerous pictures being taken. Models confidently appear on the runway. Twice a year Korean designers display their work at the Seoul Fashion Week. Let’s feel the 2012 fall and winter with fashion. The catwalk and backstage are full of excitement.
What Is a Fashion Show?
Fashion shows are not strictly about designers’ clothes. Show directors say that shows are composite performing arts. When audio and sight ingredients are balanced, fashion shows come close to perfection. Audio takes the lead in creating a unique atmosphere. Also, lighting and model, and clothes are equally important. A combination of all element is vital to the orchestration at the show.
The Seoul Fashion Week
The Seoul collection was held on last Apr. 2~7, World Peace plaza. This show is a global fashion business event run by SBA Seoul fashion center and sponsored by the city of Seoul. It is held a twice a year. It is separated into S/S and F/W. Because it shows season items before a half year, we are able to see which item will be trendy in next season. The host says the confidently that Seoul fashion week may develop into leading international shows like New York, Paris, London and Milan.
This time, the fashion week was slightly different. The venue was a new house. It has been held in SETEC hall for the last 10 years. However, this time, designers showed their collections in Olympic park, World Peace Plaza. People have expressed concerns about leaving the existing venue. Staffs thought this new venue will bring a liberal feeling to the Seoul fashion week. Though time was short for preparation, but it was developed perfect. One of the advantages was clear. No sweat from the heat of lightings this time.
The Programs in Seoul Fashion Week
The shows fall into four categories. Seoul collection is the main show. It started in 2000 and now it has becomes a largest show in Korean Fashion industry. It is open to the general public. Then, what is a fashion take-off? It held by designers in the middle stage between top designers in Seoul collection and the rising designers in Generation next. Generation next is the program for young designer. It connects them to foreign buyers. Sadly the general public can see only Seoul collection. There is a Seoul fashion fair too. It is consisting of a presentation in front of domestic and foreign buyers.
Zoom in the Last day of Seoul Fashion Week
The men’s wear shows took place on the first and second day. Some people say that the best part of the Seoul was men’s wear. In spite of the rain, many people come to the men's show. The CARUSO show designed by Chang Kwang-hyo opened at 10:00am. The well-known desingners such as Ko tae-yong, choi bum-seok, etc. followed the next day.
The women’s wear collections start on the third day with Lee Sang-bong show. Steve J & Yoni P showed witty designs. People were astonished at Andy & debb’s clothes inspirited in marble.
Veteran designers' show in Korea Fashion industry will take place on the last day. Let’s look at the some shows.

The show starts with the performing of dance boys with mask. There are mysterious atmosphere with white veil and magnificent music. Then, finally, models come into sight. Most of girls wear black or gray clothes. Chiffon dress’ silhouette is long and waved in the air. Some of them made from leather. See-through clothes cutting line is standing out. All of those dark clothes bring home fall. The most impressive thing is dramatic hats. The hats’ brim is wide and decorated with a bough. The make-up is also dramatic. They put an eye white shadow in whole eyehole. However, The designer said “I inspirited to women. I eager to show modern and elegance look.”
Rubina show is most colorful show in last day. There are so many people, waiting time is little longer than other shows. She is inspirited in Gypsy and Asia’s folklore trip. Make-up is controlled compare to the colorful clothes. We can feel free emotion with exotic mood.

This show is special to the fashion people. She led the best domestic fashion brand. However, because of IMF, her brand went broke. This show is new start passing long gap. People congratulate her challenge over 70 years old. Her collection show up under the beautiful cloud shape lighting. The shoes with the tingle sequine look beautiful like water drop.
