It the past, a lot of supermarkets rushed into our life suddenly like a flood. When The luxurious and tall supermarket first appeared, make me, my mother and other people visited there to see inside. Supermarket Staffs were extremely kind and we could get anything we wanted to buy. It was located near by. Prices were in expensive. But there was also side effect, that is, our traditional market began to disappear. We stopped visiting the traditional market.
There are tries revitalize the traditional market. All we can do is to visit there for shopping.
The Ministry of Culture. Sports and Tourism began to take an action to correct the current situation. The ministry undertook to promote traditional development projects; one of them was Motgol traditional market in Suwon. This project was going well from 2008 to 2010. This project is still running by theirselves.
If you visit the Motgol, you can easily realize a gig difference compared with other

traditional market. Clean and broad road is built, unique unified signboards are arranged neatly. Motgol are equipped with perfect facilities such lounge for customers who are tired out after shopping in the Motgol. If you look around the lounge carefully, you can listen to the story of market traders such as fish-monger and baker. You will set the feeling that you are spiritually and emotionally united traditions.
If you lucky enough to hear the singing while you are shopping in Motgol, that singing must be from Jumma choir (middle aged ladies’choir) comprised of market traders and regular customers. They sing a song on petty complaints in Motgol.
Furthermore, Motgol is radio broadcasting under the name of‘Motgol an Air.’ They bring tidings about every little detail things and news in Motgol. From running off the program to writing a script, they are operating the radio broadcast on their own. Motgol is trying to run various kinds of projects by theirselves and create cultural values in little world.
As a result, this Motgol Project hit the ball. According to the president of merchant association, Lee Chunghwan, about 13,000 people visited Motgol on the weekend in research of 2009. And he said that original visitors were 4,000-5,000 before starting the project. Therefore, Motgol got a satisfying result of growing sales of 28%. Motgol became the typical case of success traditional market, creating their own brand power.
Motgol project is guite success in forming ties and networks omong merchants. Fankly speaking, there were a lot of merchants who were skeptical about the project. In the beginning, their participation rate was really bad and they showed chilly reaction to project. However trust and belief have been forming with another and they showed around 100% participation as project went on. And they are getting to take pride in what they are doing.
Motgol’s move is not entirely finished yet. Alongside with diverse projects for senior citizen, children and local resident, they also establish a network between Motgol and local area. Motgol not only plays an important role in promoting public interest but also it istrying to communicate with local community at large.
In June, 2010, the projuct came to an end. So there are such problems as financial difficulties and labor shortage. Nonetheless, this project will go on. People there try hard to get their voice heard. Can you hear that voice? The voice they call you...
