CNU Students Left Out

For months, CNU social network pages were filled with CNU student’s concerns on searching for jobs. Words that every metropolitan cities and province have the benefit of the ‘Regional human management policy’ apart from Daejeon has made the Daejeon students including CNU furious. CNU post further investigated what ‘Regional human management policy’ is and why only Daejeon was left out.

‘Regional human management policy’ was followed by the ‘Innovation city law’ which the present government of Korea had announced on 24th October 2017 and was enforced on 25th January 2018. It is a law that forces government branches to pick an adequate number of employers from the university in the region. The government gave the policy to all the cities apart from Daejeon, and now Daejeon students have to compete with the same competition rate with foreign city students in their own area.

Innovation city law enforced to transfer public institutions to every metropolitan cities and province for the sake of decentralization of power. As Daejeon is a metropolitan city, it too should have the corresponding benefits. However, Daejeon had had government branches which had transferred from Seoul before the present government. Because of the branches Daejeon already had, it was not given an innovation city title. However, the problem was the innovation city ‘title’. Without it, Daejeon university students had no ‘Regional human management policy’ which followed the ‘Innovation city law’ when every other region students had.

Daejeon has big government branches like the ‘Daedeok research complex’. But without the innovation law, Daejeon university students cannot have any benefits inside their area. Because of this, students, especially in CNU, are concerned that the university rank would be affected because of this phenomenon in the future. Even though students are trying to alert this matter, there is no big change for the eager students in the present.
