Moving Forward into The Future

CNU has been nominated as a leading university in various fields. CNU was granted government support last year and is trying its best to better itself. Recently, CNU was awarded for being a computer software-intensive university and a leading university that provided integrated education. Let’s look at what has improved and what effort CNU is making for further improvements.

 1. Software-Intensive University

The ministry of Science, ICT(Information and Communications Technologies), and Future Planning has selected 8 universities as software-intensive universities as part of a promotional plan to be prepared for a software-intensive society. CNU is one of the 8 universities. CNU will receive 11 billion won for research expenses for up to 6 years. CNU was accepted as the best university in the software(SW) field in the country and will foster international SW experts. CNU will require all students to complete courses like ‘computing thinking’ and ‘basic programming’. Also, CNU made an agreement with Purdue University, a large research university in America, to cultivate global computer software programmers. By this agreement, third-yearstudents in Computer Science and 30 double major students may receive credit by engaging in a junior design capstone project at Purdue University for 8 weeks during winter vacation. Students will solve problems that are written by companies. The problems will relate to IOT, data analysis, robotics, etc.

Also, the students will undertake an internship and employment program. They may also undertake a co-op program, which is to work on industrial sites. A mentorship program, internships and comprehensive planning are the examples of such curriculum.

Further, undergraduates and postgraduates can work together through the Under-Post Graduate Joint Project(UPJP) program. As part of the program, the SW education for middle and high school students and the general public will be provided. The head of the CNU SW-intensive business said “We have learned the importance of software from AlphaGo as a SW-intensive university, and we will enlighten people to be aware of the importance of software. We will foster the global SW experts and do our best to contribute to the domestic industry.”

 2. A Leading University that Provides Integrated Learning

CNU was chosen as a leading university that provided integrated learning. This government business was pushed forward for the first time this year. 31 universities applied for this. Only 6 universities were selected, and CNU was one of them. CNU will be granted 1 billion won over a 4 year period. The university will make a continuous effort to foster the creative talents in the era of integration, vitalize the discussion inintegration at CNU, and create an innovate model for integrated education. Also, CNU will expand opportunities in the various integrated education within majors and liberal arts curriculums. The university will design and operate customized education focusing on consumers and integrated education. CNU will supply life-cycle education through cooperation with the community. With these activities, CNU can play a leading role that vitalizes integrated education across all universities.

We can know that CNU is developing to suit our society. We look forward to CNU’s future, which will undoubtedly be more developed.
