Two Heads Are Better Than One The CNU Study Clubs

Have you ever heard ‘two head are better than one’? Have you ever studied the same subjects with a partner? There is a program where students can study together. This program is called the CNU Study Club. This is one of the learning programs provided by Institute of Liberal Education. This is a program that students make a team and study together about the same subject. Let’s look at the CNU Study Club!

 - The Object and Necessity of the CNU Study Clubs

The object and necessity of the CNU Study Club is to promote advanced creative learning abilities through students’ self-directed selecting study subjects and cooperative learning with teammates. Another is to introduce and spread excellent Study Club cases throughout the university by supporting self-study clubs. Moreover, it promotes a self-learning culture at the university.

- Participating Teams

The qualification to apply for the CNU Study Clubs is to be an undergraduate student at CNU. Graduate students also can apply for it, but they can’t get activity scholarships. The total number of teams selected is 60. Each team makes a group of 4 to 6.

 - Subjects of the CNU Study Clubs

Subjects that the CNU Study Club can study are in the majors or connected fields that team members are studying. Other subjects can be looked at including cultural studies and free subjects like fusion studies, interdisciplinary research, and so on.

 - Meetings for Activity

Club activity is more than once a week and more than 8 times per semester. CNU Study Club members should find a place for their activity themselves.

 - Benefits

There are a few supports for Study Club activity. All Study Club teams get activity scholarships. The most excellent team can get the Best Study Club award. Also there is connected support for learning test programs.

 - The Matters to Be Aware Of

There are seven things to be aware of for this activity. First, it is impossible to apply for other study programs overlapping (like the Job Club, Foundation Club, Academic Performance Up tutoring, CRT and CRC) in the same subject. If anyone did, then the student cannot be selected for the CNU Study Club. Second, the leader of the study club should submit the list of participating members and the study plan. Third, Study Club members must attend the orientation meeting. If all members cannot make it to the orientation, this team will be disqualified as a Study Club. And members’ attendance rate will influence the evaluation for deciding the Best Study Club award. Fourth, activity pictures should be attached to weekly activity reports which show the progress of their activity. Fifth, each club should make a presentation about their study plan. Sixth, members should submit a statement of reasons why they maintain Study Club activity. Seventh, members can’t get activity scholarships if they cannot meet the basic conditions of activity. Members of each team should be at least more than 4. More than 8 study meetings must be made and weekly study reports as well as final reports should be submitted. Also members should attend orientation meetings, leaders’ meetings and presentations about achievement.

 - Criteria for Selection for CNU Study Clubs

There are 3 criteria for selection of the CNU Study Clubs. First is fidelity of the application form and study plan. The plan and motive of the activity must be sincere and adequate. Clarity of the study object and the specific planning of goal achievement are very important. Second, the teams that consist of only first-year students or include first-year students have a priority over the others. Third, the team that has CNU Study Club experience will influence selection. Also team selection considers the diversity of colleges, majors and grades. A team which consists of more than 3 members who have the same majors can’t apply for the CNU Study Clubs.

There are 4 types of study club programs including the CNU Study Club. They are CRC, Academic Performance UP tutoring, and CRT in addition to the CNU Study Clubs. So you can apply for one of them respectively. But there is a difference between the CNU Study Clubs and other programs. The CNU study clubs operate even during vacations while other do not. So the CNU Study Clubs ensure a longer period of activity and provide more chances to work. This is why we delve deeply into CNU Study Clubs at this time of the year. This program will be especially helpful for freshmen to get chances to experience cooperative learning if they are interested in learning programs.
