    Be Active for Your Future.

You have several dreams that you want to achieve. Which dream do you have for your future now? Your dreams can change easily because our social situation changes rapidly. It is by no means an unusual thing. CP reporter met a person who works for Daejeon KBS and has advised that we need to be challenging ourselves. Let’s listen to his story!

  * Who Is He?

Bang Suk Joon majored in French Language and Literature at CNU. Now he works as a News & Current Affairs Director. Don’t you feel novelty that the person who majored in French Language and Literature became a director of a program at a broadcasting company? When he was in his school days in the 1980’s, he was interested in societal problems that became a public concern. He wanted to do something that was meaningful in our society.

  1. What Does He Do?

He works for Daejeon KBS and covers news from Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong. He directs news, current events, and programs. He decides what to cover and what to report on TV, radio, and so on. He thinks reporters have to report based on the facts. Personal opinion may be possible in editorial columns; however, he thinks that news should be based on the facts.

  2. When Does He Feel Most Happy?

He was very proud of himself when he reported a case about environmental effects evaluation for a month. A company mined limestone for producing cement used in construction sites in Gangwon-do and Chungcheongbuk-do. They have to take environmental effects into consideration to see if the mining area was over certain minimum standards. However, they took advantage of a blind spot. They could get permission to mine by dividing land, so they could mine even without the environmental effect evaluation. After he reported this news, the system of permitting the mine was improved and the weak point was corrected.

His second proudest moment is that he reported directly on the news about the oil spill at the Taean peninsula at the scene of the accident. He was drenched by the oil spill, but he was very proud of himself. After he reported the news, many volunteers came to the Taean peninsula to help clean up the accident.

  3. How Does He Live After He Had Surgery?

He was diagnosed with late stage liver cirrhosis in 2010. He received a transplanted liver from his son. After he suffered at death's door, he has an altruistic mind by looking around at his surroundings. He volunteers with a service program in Cambodia every year. He helps two passionate youths who want to study at Chungnam National University. He also supports the medical expenses of an orphan from Cambodia to help cure his disease. These activities make him happier than ever before by helping others.

  4. What Was His Best and Most Interesting Activities at CNU?

It might be his club activities. He read lots of books through club study. The books that he read in his undergraduate years help his work nowadays. Another activity is a play activity. His team had to keep in harmony with each other during several months to come on the stage. He learned the importance of work itself instead of appearing on the stage. It influenced him in how to create a synergy effect in his organization.

  5. What Has Been The Best Way to Cope with Conflict Situations?

College life is a tabloid edition of community life. The same thing in both college life and social life is the fact that conflict occurs. Conflict situations may be a stage for developing our society one step further. It is not just a negative thing, but also a positive thing. You also need to understand the other side.

  6. What Are His Goals in The Future?

His biggest goal is to help his junior colleagues to improve. After his retirement, he wants to live quietly. He wants to do work for which a cellphone is unnecessary. For example, he would like to teach Korean in Cambodia if his family consents.

  7. Which Kind of Mind Do Students Need to Have?

First, you have to make yourself independent from your parents. After being educated in university, it would be good for you to get into the world with your own goals. Second, he wants CNU students to do what they really want to do for happiness, not only for money. It would be good to set up their own criteria for achievement and happiness in their lives.

  8. He Says to CNU Students

It is very important to live trying to love yourself first. You have to prepare for your future in a calm and orderly way and not depending on your parents. It would also be great to read various books in addition to the books required in their major areas. Finally, be ambitious! You have to believe in yourself absolutely because it can't be done if you don't. Be challenging, be confident!
