Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee:

Students Studying and Playing in CNU’s Volleyball Team

“Everybody was saying we couldn’t win because of our size,” said Allen Iverson who was elected as the basketball game’s MVP in Korea University Volleyball League in 2001. “It’s not about size, rather it’s about the size of your heart.” CP reporter realized that it is the same case equivalent to playing volleyball after interviewing the captain of volleyball team. It is because CP reporter could feel their efforts toward a better game. Let’s listen to their story!

The Story of the Volleyball Team at CNU

The Volleyball team of CNU was upgraded from a second league to a first league team in 2013 as the Korean College Volleyball League was integrating into a first tier league. The team was ranked tenth in the 2014 Korean College Volleyball League. Most players are experiencing inconvenience when they are in the second tier league because of the integration of the league. However, they thought it would provide sufficient opportunities and experiences to make a new leap forward for this league in 2015.

How Do They Exercise in the Team?

The team consists of 12 players: 11 players who major in sports sciences, and 1 player who majors in physical education. The captain of the volleyball team is Kwon Yeong-il, and he is in charge of the left position this year. The members of the team attend classes like other students from 9 to 4 every day and practice playing volleyball after classes. It is not easy to study and exercise at the same time in contrast with other college students, but they try to do their best all the time.

What Is the Most Memorable Moment in 2014?

They have two memories which include the most memorable game and the most upsetting experience in 2014. First, the former was the first game against the team from Kyung Hee University. The score was 2-0 in favor of the opposing team. However, they didn’t give up the game to the last. CNU’s team could win the game with the score of three to two turning the tables. Second, the latter was a game against the team from Joongbu University. It was an away match for Team CNU, and the fans of Joongbu University cheered for their team passionately. They felt that they almost lost the game.

What Was The Goal for the 2015 League?

CNU’s volleyball team was good at keeping training up steadily. Team captain Kwon Yeong-il said, “It is natural to have a gap in the quantity of exercise compared to other college teams. It is because studying is as important as playing volleyball. However, we have the special power that makes us keep it up.” They improved in organizational capability through training sessions which took place at the CNU gym. Thus, the volleyball team of CNU wants to do their best in this league for a better game, and they think it will be great to advance to the semi-final this year.

  Messages for CNU Students

Volleyball is one of the most attractive ball games in sports. It is because members have to do their utmost efforts and volleyball is a truly dynamic sport. The 2015 Korean college volleyball league started a preliminary league for 3 months (from March to May) with both home and away games. After that league, the interleague games will go along from June through September. It would be wonderful for CNU students to cheer for their volleyball players and encourage the volleyball team of CNU. Come and see!
