Senses Another Laugh & Another Delight

Which salad do you like most? Salmon salad? Kiwi salad? Whatever you like, it’s obvious that salad goes well with any ingredient! If you make a salad with tuna, it becomes a tuna salad, and if you make it with tomato, it becomes a tomato salad! Like this, a dormitory club named “SALAD” has a meaning that it can harmonize with any culture, language, and people. Chungdae Post reporter (CP) met the leader of SALAD to hear all about it. Let’s listen to SALAD’s story.

  What is SALAD?

SALAD, which means “Senses Another Laugh & Another Delight,” is a club for students from all over the world who live in CNU’s dormitories. This club has about 70 foreign student members from 50 nations and an additional 20 Korean members. SALAD promotes friendship among its members, carries out cultural exchanges, and helps foreign students to adapt themselves to Korean life through several activities.

What kind of activities do they do?

On Mondays, the staff of SALAD get together to exchange their ideas for their next activity. If something is decided for their activity, each staff member takes the part of their own work and prepares for their activity until the next Sunday, when all members of SALAD enjoy that prepared activity. There are several interesting activities like “Beer Party at Sky Lounge in the dormitory,” “Experience Korean Traditional Culture,” “Going to Watch Baseball Game,” “Making Salads of Each Nation,” “Membership Training Trip,” “Field Day,” and so on! Through these activities, they get to know each other and become great friends!

The Story of SALAD’s Leader

SALAD’s leader Hui-eun was a normal member like others until last year. Her most memorable activity was “Field Day” because it was her first project. The preparation process was hard but it was meaningful to her. When the last relay of the field day started, students who were not SALAD’s member also cheered together. Through this project, she could feel the ownership mind (unclear meaning). Her most impressive experience was the “Membership training trip.” In SALAD, members have their own religions and cultures, so there is usually someone who doesn’t eat pork, chicken, or meat. For that reason, they ordered some special pizzas for them, but there were often mistakes. At that moment she got angry about that, but in retrospect, it was her most fun experience ever.

Sometimes Korean students have prejudices toward the idea of being friends with foreign students. She wants to tell them this: “They came to Korea because they love Korea and Korean culture. However, they feel homesick and lonely sometimes. So put yourself in a foreign student’s shoes. You would feel lonely if you went abroad to study. Don’t hesitate about being friends with them!”

        We recommend SALAD to people…

          …who want to break man-barriers not trade-barriers.

…who worry about narrow human relationships.

…who want to find friends that can wait for you wherever you go abroad.
