The Long Lasting Friendship between Two Different People

Yu Shang-Feng, who is over Chinese, has a reliable friend who is like a brother. Their age gap is 5 years, but they are best friends. When Yu recalls who could be a good fellow, this friend comes across Yu’s mind right away. He is Taegu Yeo. He entered CNU in 1999 and now works as a civil
servant in Daejeon. His major was Chinese Language & Chinese Literature. They seem somewhat different and have no common similarities. How did they become friends?

   1. How Did They Meet?
In 2009, when Yu was a regular student, he was having a monotonous time owing to tedious college life. It became harder and harder to study, so, he decided to leave college for a while. Then he started what he had wanted to do. One of these things was kickboxing. Then, he met Yeo, while he was exercising alone at the gym. After he finished other work, he went to the kickboxing academy and there was always Yeo. Yu wanted to be his friend because he was alone and he was practicing kickboxing hard. One day, he talked to Yeo and this was the beginning of their friendship.

   2. What Was the Reason for Becoming Best Friends?
Yeo might be embarrassed by Yu’s sudden talk. However, Yeo got a favorable impression of him, so, he could have a continuous talk although he was wary of strangers. After exercising, they used to eat chicken and drink beer and their meeting was more frequent than before. It was good for them because they found a person to talk to in each other. From that time they started to share their lives, daily schedules, love problems, etc. As they spent more time together, they felt beneficial influences. Yeo gave advice to Yu when he felt lost in studying, like “the pen is mightier than the sword”. As Yeo helped, Yu came back to school and kept studying.

   3. What Is a Memorable Experience with Each Other?
One day, they had a travel with other friends. They went to Wolmido, Incheon. They had blind dates, went to a playground, and played games at the sea even though a typhoon was approaching Incheon. It was thought to be dangerous, but bad weather made the travel more special. It was Yeo’s first time to stay overnight with friends. In addition, there were many experiences that Yeo had with Yu. He was so pure and timid that he could not enjoy entertainment culture. Yu helped him to enjoy his youth. Yu took him to a club for dancing and drinking. It was also the first time to Yeo. They enjoyed the situation, and Yeo also remembered this good time.

   4. What Are They Grateful for?
Yu said Yeo helps him all around. He doesn’t know Korean laws or cultures, so Yeo solved some problems and gave him advice like a brother. When Yu’s grandfather was missing, Yeo came running right after hearing the news to take care of Yu and his family. It was very helpful for Yu. Also, as Yu has restarted his studying now, Yeo gives meals, snacks, and some stationery to him.
On the other hand, Yeo get help with medicine. When his family is sick or hurt, he calls Yu and asks what he should do. Besides, Yu gives him some vitamins to keep his health and informs him about foods that he needs to avoid or to eat. Another thing is Yu’s attitude. Yu became very friendly like a brother, but Yu is always wellmannered. Yeo feels comfortable when he is with Yu. He wants God to bless Yu.
