The great American industrialist Henry Ford famously said this quote. It means that if you think you can do something and your mind says that you can do it, then you can make it work. However, if you think you cannot do something, then it is usually yourself that keeps you from accomplishing it. Recently, I had an experience that showed me how important positive thoughts are.

I went to basic military training for about two weeks due to be a military cadet during the winter vacation. Before entering the Army Cadet Military School, I worried about how hard the training would be. Rumors that trainees who wear glasses could get seriously hurt while shooting a gun and that trainees who don’t get good scores during training won’t be military cadets were spreading throughout the ROTC. I thought that I will be the one of the stragglers. In addition, fear of a long march made me wish that I wanted to be a woman... I could not dispel the negative thoughts from my head.

From the first day to the third day of training, my negative mindset made me frustrated. Every day seemed like a year. At that time, my father sent me a letter that said, “Don’t worry about the training. If you can’t avoid it, just enjoy it, Son! Be positive!”

After that, I fixed my mindset and tried to be more positive and it worked. Time passed quickly. Even the march over 30km felt short and the military gear over 20kg felt very light.

Examine your beliefs about those actions to determine if they are holding you back... So if you want to achieve your goals, create a mindset made of beliefs that support the truth you want in your future
