Do you know about the official presses of Chungnam National University? At CNU, there are three presses, the Chungdae Post, CNUBS, and the Chungdae Newspaper. Many students don’t know about these useful organizations. Therefore, CP will let you know about the three presses with this article.
The Chungdae Post with Pride and Passion
The first press is the Chungdae Post. Now, this article is the product of the Chungdae Post. All of it is written in English, so maybe you think it is difficult and boring. However, if you begin to read it, you will know how interesting it is. Let’s start to read!
1. What Is the CP?
The Chungdae Post (CP) was established on February 25, 1975 as a sister institution of the Chungdae Newspaper. The aim was to improve overseas public relations and to bolster the status of the university. Since that year, 246 issues including this volume have been published on second floor of Student Hall 3. Then, who is making the effort for the magazine which is released 4 times a year? There are 8 people who are working at the Chungdae Post editorial office. The 6 people among them are in charge of covering stories as reporters; they choose several news items among a bunch of things, cover them, and write articles. The others take responsibility for the overall work as an editor-inchief of the CP.
2. Who Works for You, the CP?
There are 3 departments at the CP, such as Culture Desk, Social Desk and University Desk. All members carry out their work for successful completion of their own columns. First, Culture Desk’s columns are called Culturati (interviewing people in cultural fields), Review (introducing performances or exhibitions), Culture Sketch (reporting cultural phenomena) and Recommendation (being recommended
for CNU students).Second, Social Desk’s columns consist of the Cover Story (the center piece of the magazine, analysis of social phenomena), Zoom In (reporting experiences which are related to our society) and Opinion (debating social issues with CNU students). Last, the University Desk’s columns are made up of Campus News (reporting news at the university), World Wide CNU (interviewing foreign students at CNU and students who are having overseas experiences) and CNU’S Alumni (interviewing the graduates of CNU).
3. What is your special thing, the CP?
Readers can get more and wide information about the various matters in and out of CNU because there are many useful columns. Also, they can take part in the sections such as OPINION and RECOMMENDATION to reveal their opinions about them. Therefore the CP is always open to all students who want to take part in the magazine.
The Only Broadcaster, CNUBS
If you are a Chungnam National University student, you may hear the radio broadcast over the whole campus. Who makes these broadcasts? The people are the members of CNUBS. The CNUBS is the only press that is in charge of broadcasting.
1. What Is the work of CNUBS?
The main work of CNUBS is broadcasting. They make broadcasts three times a day from Monday to Friday during the semester. The materials are varied, such as the news of campus, introducing movies or music, reading stories of students, and finding solutions. For good broadcasts, they plan to run programs, write scripts, control sound, and monitor them. Also, while CNU has great events like orientations and the policy forums of the student body, they record programs on videotape. They make
their own festival, too. It shows many videos and introduces various programs and all of them are made
by CNUBS from beginning to end. In addition, they superintend a music hall which is located on the second floor of the first student union. In there, they play songs at the request of students.
2. How Is It Composed?
There are 10 members in four departments. One is the production department. It makes new programs, writes a l l the scripts, adjusts broadcasting time, and chooses the music. Another is the announcers’ department. It is the flower of CNUBS. They read scripts and meet students through their voices. The third one is the technical department. They control the machines and make videos. They decide the quality of broadcasting. The last one is the reporting staff. They gather the articles and deliver the news to other department members. They bring in the subject matters. Even though there is just one broadcast, every department is needed, so all of them are important.
3. What Is the Special Thing about CNUBS?
First of all, they can communicate with students in real time. They broadcast live every day, and they can hear students’ opinions much more than the other presses. Also, because they produce video and radio and make their own festival, they interact with people and they can experience many things.
The Chungdae Newspaper, Review the Old and Learn the New!
The Chungdae Newspaper has a long history at CNU; it was established in June, 1959 and is steadily growing through various trials and errors. Since the first year, 1,076 issues have been published, every
two weeks. The Chungdae Post reporter met Oh Ju-hyeong who works for The Chungdae Newspaper’s University Department.
1. We Are Going for a Higher Goal
Providing information and delivering the news of CNU are the main priorities. The Chungdae Newspaper also wants to play a crucial role in forming public opinion. In addition to this function, it takes charge of links between the community and the university. To achieve this goal, they have a meeting for several days despite vacation and always contribute a lot of energy to reporting CNU’s news in a timely manner. Reading other university’s magazines, surfing the school community sites, and meticulous analysis of daily papers and online news are a matter of serious concern as well.
2. We Are Doing Our Best in Each Position
All members have their own positions : editor-in-chief, department head, reporter, and cub-reporter. There are 6 departments in total which are composed of The Chungdae Newspaper, University, Society,
Scholarship, Planning, Photo, and Culture Department. The scholarship and Planning Departments deal with commonly extensive fields. However, the difference stems from content; the former mainly consists of heavy issues, compared to this, the latter has concerns about grabbing readers’ interest. The other parts also perform their own work.
3. We Are Hoping to Reach Readers
They feel pride when students read their newspapers with interest. This is the result of efforts which boost the morale more and security fence from the University-Industry Research Collaboration Building to College of Social Sciences. After the report regarding the dangerousness of the path of the construction that fence was installed! This outcome shows clearly their function as a press. Then, what
can people do for this newspaper and its smooth function? First, read as much as you can. It will be a big assistance to them. Second, share your information with the Chungdae Newspaper. Anyone who wants to provide information is always welcome.
