■ Coolheaded Related to Doping,
■ Warmhearted in Treating People
In Dae-gu stadium, where the national sports games for the disabled were held, I met a senior, Jeon In-sang who is working in KADA, the Korean Anti-Doping Agency now. What on earth was he doing there? I will let you know. I am here to introduce him and his job. Enter a new world. Let’s go!
Do You Know about Doping?
It is just what the title is telling us about. Do you know about doping? Doping is to use drug stimulants and muscle enhancers and to give a special pharmacological treatment and injection with the purpose of raising performance. Then it is called dope which is used for those works. Doping is intended on purpose to control physical and mental aspects to improve the competitive power through drugs. It leads to an increase, in competitive power through strengthening the muscles and lasting concentration. By using drugs habitually, however, side effects will appear seriously. You can improve the performance of the game by doping, but it damages the health of the players and even the value of the sport because athletes should compete fairly in the same circumstances. It is to break the rules and betray fans to use the power of drugs.
Is There Any Solution to Prevent Doping?
Dope was the original nick name for drugs put into racehorses, but it became used in the sports world to achieve a good performance. However, doping tests to detect certain drugs were implemented in a lot of international matches after a huge controversy against doping. A doping test, also called a drug test, is carried out as a technical analysis of a biological specimen such as urine, hair, blood, breath air, sweat, or oral fluid / salvia.
How Did It Start?
KADA, the only anti-doping institute in Korea, which carries out doping tests for doping prevention, are trying to have education, public relations, research, planning, implementation, management of results, preparation, and cooperation, etc. It was established in 2006 and was first started in the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF). Based on the IAAF, the doping control system has gradually evolved and developed since that time. KADA has been regarded as the 2nd only to Japan in effectiveness in Asia.Destiny is a matter of choice, KADA.
Jeon In-Sang, our senior, working for the anti-doping committee, graduated from the department of English Literature and Language at Chungnam National University in the class 79. Even though he was not outstanding, he excelled on the basis of honesty and integrity that his father had always stressed. He was not able to get certified from the beginning but was finally recognized as a result of working in good faith. Telling his stories, he stressed effort and sincerity.
As soon as he graduated from school in 1986, he took part in the Korea Sports Council. The way he took part in it was very simple. He entered the Korea Sports Council at the introduction of a friend whom he was close with at the time of university. He has always had special feelings about sports and he liked sports enough to form the table tennis club “Hanuri”. Therefore, he accepted the recommendation to come the Korea Sports Council.
He has worked for 20 years in the Korea Sports Council and he had a good time through traveling overseas for athletics for the first 10 years. While he worked, he had feelings of doubt and tried to look for another job. At that time, all the English documents were in his charge as the reason for graduating from the department of English Literature and Language. One day he received documents on anti-doping. He began to delve deeply into anti-doping and fell to anti-doping at the beginning of the document. After all, he became known as an anti-doping official and joined the KADA soon after foundation.
Grasping the True Nature of the Doping Test
After entering the KADA, becoming the inspection team leader to plan distribution and promote the doping test, he has served as a planning and management team leader up to today. This place I interviewed him was Dae-gu stadium which was where the National Disabled Sports Convention was held. He was in charge of the doping tests of athletes with disabilities at that time.
However, a doping test is not a simple task intently. In order to have a fair game, he has to find athletes who are hiding even though they doped and watch and monitor all the process of urine come out. Furthermore it is more difficult to test this sports game because of targeting athletes with disabilities. A person who is visually impaired needs representatives to pass the process of a doping test and a hearing-impaired person needs sign language. Also they have to receive urine by connecting the hose from the people who do not have genitals. In addition, they wait for 4 to 5 hours to receive urine for players who are too timid to urine.
The Spirit That He Brings to His Work
One day, as he visited the fortune-teller to take auspices, the fortune-teller said that he had a tendency for investigation. It is a fact. He wants players to pass the doping tests safely without using drug, but he explores elaborately whether the players doped or not with a cold eye from the point of view of investigators and police officers. If a player who is not in response to a request of the chaperone and drugs detected from urine, they are rejected as a player for 2 years after standing hearing. However, sometimes unfortunate situation happened for not requesting a chaperone in ignorance. When the player who missed the doping test in ignorance attended a hearing, their parents are asked to look at their child only once with the crying. This makes him very sorry.
Beautiful School Days
Recalling his school days, he said that “Do not dig a well. World is wide. You have to concentrate in many fields. You should study, exercise, draw, sing, play musical instruments, love deeply, and play all night.” He said that the more you love deeply, the more you have reminders as we grow older and older. In addition, he recommended reading many books. He has a habit to buy a book as soon as he receives a salary. Recommending a book of Passion, One million Passion Dollars of Lee Che-uku, he finished the interview.
